City of Grass Valley
Grass Valley is rich in Cornish heritage and officially became the "most Cornish place in America"1 in 2015. Many of the early settlers to this area were miners from Cornwall England whose mining skills were needed to mine gold. Grass Valley is the location of the Empire Mine and North Star Mine, two of the richest mines in California. They still hold on to their Cornish heritage with Cornish Christmas, St. Piran's Day celebrations and their popular Cornish pasties.
Many people come to Grass Valley to explore the local cultural heritage, eat pasties and enjoy the many outdoor activities, such as gold panning, riding and hiking trails, and water rafting.
The 2010 US Census reported a population of 12,860
