The California gold rush saw men and women come to California in hopes of getting rich. Not many struck it rich however one gold panner named Claud Chana found gold in May of 1848 in what is known today as Auburn Ravine. At that time mining camps would pop up, with sometimes hundreds of people camping there, until the 'easy' gold tapped out and they would move on to the next camp. For some reason Auburn was different; its location and being the county seat caused it to grow and people to settle. Learn more about Auburn's history.
